Description: The Country Walks group is a friendly group of walkers. The walks are not too strenuous and are approximately three to five miles long, (about one and a half to two and a half hours steady walking), which means we have the shortest walk of the three groups.

We usually meet in a pub car park, at the start of the walk .The walks are always circular so we end back at a pub, this is done for a purpose as most of us then retire to the pub for lunch or refreshment, but this is up to the individual.

We are a popular group with a healthy membership but not all attend every time so there is no limit to the numbers in the group. The average attendance is about fifteen to twenty for each walk.

To join the group just sign up at the monthly meeting or just turn up in good time on the day (walk details are in the newsletter).

CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT FOR COUTRY WALKS

Country Walks are usually morning only affairs, but the weather can be changeable, so wear layers of clothing.

A good anorak or waxed jacket is always desirable, as are waterproof trousers or overtrousers, and a hat, carrying an umbrella is not practicable. In the summer use sunscreen and wear a hat.

Our routes cover both metalled paths and grass tracks where conditions can sometimes be wet or muddy, so we suggest wearing walking boots and avoiding “Trainers” as they are not intended for walking away from hard surfaces. But wear what you want.

No equipment is required. A rucksack is useful to carry unused clothing. Some of our members carry a walking stick.

The walks are planned to start and end at a pub or in a village. In the summer bring a bottle of water so you can quench your thirst during the walk.
