Description: This is a group of like minded individuals who have a common interest in antiques and 20th century collectables and want to learn more about them. We discuss our particular interests e.g. art deco, pottery, ceramics, silverware, art etc. In conjunction with our fellow Antiques and Collectables Group we visit local auction houses, antique fairs, shops and sometimes hold our own stall at local fairs. We have access to the minibus so we can travel as a group.

WHAT IS AN ANTIQUE?

The rule is that an antique is something that is over one hundred years old.

WHAT IS A COLLECTABLE?

A collectable can be anything of  any age and consists of any number of

items under one heading, For example beer mats, or vintage cars.

Therefore the range of interest of the Antique and Collectable's Groups is wide and varied.

Venue:

The Wheatsheaf Inn

Meeting Dates

 & Times:

4th Monday in the month

2:00pm

Additional Charges:

£2.00 per meeting for tea/coffee & room hire

Description: Our meetings are very friendly and informal and we have always had good group participation. We will generally agree amongst ourselves which area of antiques and collectables we would like to find out more about, then we research the chosen subjects and discuss them at our monthly meetings. Most of our members are keen collectors and more than willing to bring along their treasures to share with us which means we very often have an interesting display from which we can try to identify the makers markings, or, as in some cases, suggest what the said item may be.

We visit antique centres, to date we have visited Horncastle, toured the Royal Crown Derby factory, looked for interesting items at Arthur Johnson's Auctions and browsed the antique aisles at Melton Mowbray Cattle market. We're now planning visits to Ashbourne, Stamford and a revisit to Horncastle, to peruse the antique shops and search out any bargains  Until joining the group some of us had never come across a "Fairing", didn't know what a "pipe tamper" was or looked like and never bought and sold anything on ebay, it's just been a continuous learning curve. How had we come so far knowing so little!!!

VALUING ANTIQUES & COLLECTABLES

Please remember that many Antiques and Collectables are only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for them. At auctions, the sale price is entirely dependent on the determination of competing bidders to buy the item.

BUYING ANTIQUES & COLLECTABLES

You can spend any amount of money on your hobby depending on your interest and enthusiasm for the subject.

There are different sources to add to your collection such as antique shops, fairs and auctions along with the

Internet sites like e-bay.

We are fortunate in the Nottingham

area to have a large choice of places

to purchase antiques and collectable's.

Start collecting today and leave your children something else to sort out!
